Ligapokal-Finale

Some pictures of the final match of the German Ligapokal which took place at the Central Stadium in Leipzig today. It was amazing to see players of the German national fooball team like Kahn, Klose, Frings or Podolski play a match in real life. Five Euros a ticket was a real bargain anyway — that’s what I call a social market economy.

World Cup 2006

Been a while since I last posted something here — sorry about that. University and football have been keeping me busy, especially since my first exams are coming around the corner.

Anyway, what a great World Cup! :-) It’s sad Germany didn’t make it to the final match, but I’m still very happy about how things turned out for our team. One thing I’ve been thinking about a lot, though, is why Zidane headbutted Materazzi. I hope the next days will shed some light on the incident.

Vive la France!

What an amazing game. The results were surprising, true — but France was, simply put, the better team. On the one hand, I’m happy the French team gets to show the world what they really can do. On the other hand, I feel sorry for Brazilian players like Ronaldinho who could have done so much better. We’ll see how things will develop.

One thing I noticed is that the referees start making a lot of mistakes which seem a little peculiar (or rather: suspicious) to me, e.g. Brazil’s free kick for Ronaldo’s really really lame dive or giving the right to a goal-kick to the Brazilian goal keeper shortly after that. I understand that being a referee is a difficult job. However, these days the FIFA has the technical means to analyze certain situations and to communicate with the referees in order to prevent things like this.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that anyone is trying to pull something off here. But I’m sure we are going to get to a point where mistakes like these will affect the outcome of a game — and I wouldn’t want to see that happen.

Football Mania

I know It’s been a while since I last wrote about the World Cup. There were just way too many games that took place during the last two weeks, so I thougt I’d rather put it all in one post.

Germany vs. Ecuador was an interesting game. Not much to say here, though, so you will have to stick with the pictures :-) Click here: 01, 02, 03

A friend of mine managed to get tickets to watch Argentina play against Mexico last weekend in the Zentralstadion Leipzig. Both teams did very well and the audience was amazing, creating an awesome atmosphere in the stadium and in the city of Leipzig. Some fans even decided to spend the night sleeping in public parks and wouldn’t get up until Monday at noon :-)

The most important match of course was Germany vs. Argentina in Berlin yesterday afternoon. Both teams delivered another great game. The Argentinians, however, played very rough at times and in my opinion the provocations by players such as Tevez should have been punished much harder. Especially the attack of the Argentinian substitutes after the game is neither justified nor understandable. I’m glad the FIFA announced to investigate this incident.

Unfair playing was a also problem when the Netherlands played against Portugal. As I stated before, something like this shouldn’t happen in a football game. I’m also sad to see that England had to leave so early :-( France has been doing pretty well, though — and I’m happy they managed to improve and are now facing Brazil. Speaking of Brazil, the game kicked off about 10 minutes ago … :-)

Corea Fighting!

Just a bunch of pictures taken in the city of Leipzig yesterday evening when France played against Korea. It was a really interesting match — and I’ve never seen football fans getting as crazy as the Korean fans did. Enjoy :-)
